Wander around the Egyptian museum with your private guide and explore the history of God Aton. Aton was depicted as the sun disk with rays reaching to the earth. The sun rays ended as human hands and often extended the ankh to the pharaoh.

The biggest promoter of the God Aton’s religion was King Amenhotep IV or king Akhenaten. When king Akhenaten started worshipping God Aton, he had a big struggle with the priest of God Amun. The priests of God Amun found that they may lose their prestige if people started following the new religion of God Aton.

When the relationship between Akhenaton and priests of God Amun started getting strained, King Akhenaten held a religious revolution and invited the people of Luxor (Thebes) to follow his new God, Aton. He was forced to leave Thebes (Luxor) because it was the center of the God Amun-Ra religion. Nefertiti, his wife left with him. They left to the new capital, Tell al Amarna, which later become the center of the God Aton. Nefertiti was not just a wife for Akhenaton but she was his life partner and his only supporter when everyone was against him for changing the main religion of the Thebes.

Nefertit was the wife of King Akhenaten and the step mom of King Tut. Nefertiti was such a great example of honesty and sacrifice; she left her family and her people and decided to join her husband Akhenaten to his new capital, Tell Alamarna (about 155 miles north of Luxor and 200 miles south of Giza Pyramids) when almost every one let him down.

Queen Nefertiti

After the death of Akhenaten, Nefertiti supported King Tut to take over the control of the country. She was more experienced than the mother of King Tut due to her long time in rule with Akhenaten and the royal family. The religion of God Aton almost stopped after the death of pharaoh Akhenaten.
